About Bill Mulder

William C. "Bill" Mulder

January 31, 1971 - June 9, 2017

Bill Mulder was born in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to Plainview, Texas when he started the seventh grade at Coronado. Bill was a great athlete and had a strong love for his friends, family, and for his country. He loved everything to do with guns, knives, and John Rambo. Bill played linebacker at Plainview High School from 1986 to 1989 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1989. Bill went to Central College in Pella, Iowa on a football scholarship where he played for 4 years, as middle linebacker, and received many honors, including All American.

Bill graduated from Central College and, after working a sales job for a while, decided to follow his dreams. In January 1997, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, and in July went to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training. He graduated BUD/S in June 1998 and served on SEAL Team 5 in Coronado, California for 6 years. Bill was then selected to screen for the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group, or DEVGRU, now known to the world as SEAL Team 6. Bill served his remaining time of 20 total years on Team 6, with numerous deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan over his career. Bill won numerous awards and commendations in his military career, including three Bronze Stars with Valor.

Bill was best known to his family and friends as a driven, determined, and dedicated warrior who loved and laughed as hard as he fought. He became the man he was due in large part to his time at Plainview High School as a member of the Angry Red. May his tenacious spirit live on in those that are nominated for, and win the Bill Mulder SEAL Spirit Scholarship for many years to come.
