Minnie and Arch Underwood Family To Be Honored Thursday, Aug. 14th

Members of the Lubbock media are invited to attend a news conference directly preceding Thursday’s 15th Annual Hero’s Luncheon honoring the Minnie and Arch Underwood Family. Members of the Underwood Family will speak and be available for interviews at that time. The news conference will begin at 10 a.m. in the Canyon Room of the Overton Hotel.

Thursday has been declared Minnie and Arch Underwood Family Day by the Lubbock City Council. News conference speakers will include Tom Prather (son of Mary Katherine and Wayne Prather), Fred Underwood (son of Dale and Fred Q Underwood), Rick Chambers (son of Dorothy and Dick Chambers), and Louise Underwood (wife of Harris Underwood). Sheryl Cates, president of the Lubbock Area Foundation, will also speak.

The Hero’s Luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Overton. Members of the media are invited to stay for the luncheon. Previous honorees of the Hero’s Luncheon include Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, John Montford, Glenna Goodacre, United Supermarkets, Robert Duncan, Marciano and Martha Morales, the Alderson Family and Spike Dykes.

Minnie and Arch Underwood, their children and subsequent generations have made monumental contributions to the region’s cotton industry, economic development, civic organizations, churches, universities and charities for more than 75 years.

The Lubbock Area Foundation, started in 1981, is a community foundation for the South Plains and beyond. Its primary purpose is to attract and build permanent endowments that benefit this region for many years to come. Since 1997, endowments established in honor of our heroes have generated more than $1,000,000 in grants for community projects, scholarships and local nonprofit causes.
