LAF and Scholastic Books Award Grant to Post ISD to help in devastating fire

Early on the morning of September 21, 2014, the Post Elementary School caught on fire destroying the school for around 470 students and 50 faculty members. Luckily no one was in the building at the time of the fire. Officials immediately began working on a solution to where these students would be housed for the remainder of the school year.

A new school for Post High School students was nearing completion so the Elementary school would be moved into the old high school. Teachers and students were still in need of school supplies to replace what was lost in the fire.

The Lubbock Area Foundation contacted and worked closely with the Post Garza County Endowment Fund Advisory Board an Affiliate of the Lubbock Area Foundation to discuss needed items for the continuation of school activities and learning. LAF wanted to find a way we could help the Post community recover from this devastating loss.

On Friday, September 26, 2014, the Lubbock Area Foundation and Scholastic Books awarded $20,000 in grants to Post Elementary School for books, supplies and other items lost in the fire and not covered by insurance. Scholastic Books graciously matched one for one the funds provided by the Lubbock Area Foundation.

We are thankful the Lubbock Area Foundation and Scholastic Books was able to help the Post community in this tragic loss.
