In October 2017, the West Texas Watercolor Society (WTWS) hosted a workshop called "Loosen Up with Aquamedia Painting." The project was designed to give back to the community through education. WTWS was able to give three high school teachers from Hale County and Lubbock County a scholarship to the workshop held once per year for WTWS members and other artists. The 2017 workshop was led by world renowned artist Robert Burridge.

Listed below are the teacher scholarship recipients:

  • Deidra Brooks - Slaton High School

  • Brenda Parker - Coronado High School

  • Julee Patterson - Plainview High School

WTWS was able to pay for registration fees, as well as for art supplies for all three teachers who received the scholarship. In turn, WTWS has been able to impact numerous students through these three teachers. The teachers were able to learn new methods and techniques through a hands on approach with Robert Burridge. The teachers are now able to share Robert Burridge's knowledge with their students.

During the four day workshop daily demonstrations were performed for attending artists. As the day went on there were question and answer sessions should the artists have any questions that would be beneficial for their own classroom instruction.
