#SPneighbors Grant Story: Family Counseling Services
Family Counseling Services was able to continue providing mental health and substance abuse services during the pandemic with assistance from the South Plains COVID-19 Relief Fund. The organization purchased telehealth seats, cloud practice management software, and cloud progress note writing software to serve consumers remotely.
FCS tells more about the success of the grant, “There were 166 consumers served during this period, with the greatest majority of them served remotely through telehealth. We quickly became the go to site for all of the local universities to send their counseling students to, because we were the only outpatient clinic open.” The organization further says, “We were responsible for 16 graduate students not having to postpone their graduation for a year. Two individuals received their Licensed Professional Counselor license because they could keep working and being supervised during the pandemic.”
By creating more providers for services, Family Counseling Services opened access to mental health services for the community. FCS expands on the pros of this project, “we don't always have to stop serving when our building is physically full, because we will have the option of providing services remotely now.”
