About #GivingTuesday
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world came together for one common purpose: To celebrate generosity and to give.
#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012. Lubbock nonprofit Alström Angels, in partnership with The Community Foundation of West Texas, brought the #GivingTuesday movement to the South Plains in 2015 as a community transformation project to benefit all charities serving Lubbock and West Texas citizens. #GivingTuesdayWTX is a day dedicated to bringing West Texas together to celebrate generosity and to make giving history for local charities by giving big.
#GivingTuesdayWTX 2020
On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, local businesses, individuals and families in Lubbock and the surrounding communities collaborated for a record-breaking, history-making #GivingTuesdayWTX campaign! Over $468,000 was raised for 54 local nonprofit organizations.
A little history:
#GivingTuesdayWTX raised $129,000 for 40 participating nonprofits its inaugural year in 2015. Our 2019 campaign kicked-off with a goal of $280,000. Closing out December 3, 2019 with $523,000 knocked our socks off!
The generosity of West Texas people is inspiring! Swollen with pride to be a part of this local philanthropic movement, we are indelibly grateful to everyone involved. YOU made the difference!!
