CFWT Grant Story: Dickens County Historical Commission

Dickens County Historical Commission replaced the ceiling in The Palace Theater with a grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas. DCHC reported, “After we got the ceiling installed and operational we were able to show more movies and offer programs because of the ability to cool and warm the theater building.” Since the installation, the Palace has shown ten movies, hosted one meeting for the community, and utility costs decreased by 25%.

A DCHC wrote in its report, “The Palace was chosen for the venue to present the new company coming to Dickens County that will allow bit-coin mining.” The organization continues to say, “On the night of October 4, 2021, the Palace was almost filled to capacity with some patrons standing in the back. The company officials were very complimentary on the restoration and comfort of meeting place and the availability of the restrooms – we estimate over 300 visitors that night.”
