#SPneighbors Grant Story: Ulabs Makerspace

Ulabs Makerspace used their Relief Fund grant to make face shields for the West Texas community. The organization explains how the funds were used, “The project helped provide face shields for those who need them with zero cost and no waiting time for shipping.”

The project was executed in five steps: make the prototype, order the materials to make the shields, start production, recruit volunteers, and distribute face shields. Ulabs talks about one difficulty of making face shields, “One of the challenges was to get plastic from China. It took a long time and complicated process to get them here because of the new regulations.”

Ulabs’ local production line supplied face masks in a time when PPE was in high demand and low availability. To donate to the South Plains COVID-19 Relief Fund and assist with local projects like this, use the following link: https://cfwtx.salsalabs.org/spneighbors/index.html.
