Five Lubbock County Students awarded $20,000 scholarships

On April 25, 2014 the Lubbock Area Foundation announced that five exceptional Lubbock County high school students were selected to receive the prestigious Don & Sybil Harrington Scholarship. The Don & Sybil Harrington Scholarship Endowmentwas established at the Lubbock Area Foundation in late 2006 with a gift of $3 million. With this scholarship, each student is eligible to receive up to $20,000 for the pursuit of their educational goals with awards of $5,000 for each year of their baccalaureate studies (up to 4 years) dependent on their ability to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and their continuation of study in an approved field.

The 2014 recipients of the Don & Sybil Harrington Scholarship are:

  • Salem Long – Lubbock High School

  • David McGinnis – Monterey High School

  • Amy Aldana – Monterey High School

  • Paul Gaschen, Jr. – Trinity High School

  • Steven McCann — Idalou High School
