CFWT Grant Story: Lubbock Symphony Orchestra

With funding from the Community Foundation of West Texas, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra held their annual LSO Family Concert for the 2019-2020 season.

A LSO member expanded on the event details: “The annual LSO Family Concert, or “Maestro Mash,” has become a beloved tradition for families in the Lubbock area. Festivities kicked off at 6:30 p.m. on October 29, 2019, with educational activities, such as the Build-Your-Own-Instrument Workshop and lessons on conducting like the Maestro, followed by an exciting free orchestra concert. The concert featured a family-friendly magic presentation and Halloween-themed music including eerie classical works like Modest Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and music from television shows and movies, such as “Harry Potter” and “E.T.,” which thrilled patrons before proceeding to a trick-or-treat through the lobby of the Civic Center. The evening was curated by LSO staff, particularly Education Director Jeanette Markee and Music Director David Cho, to provide an opportunity to learn about music and participate to educate, entertain, and inspire children and families through music.”
