CFWT Mini-Grants for Teachers Story: New Deal
A New Deal Elementary 2-4 grade teacher purchased supplies for the Texas Tech University Robotics Competition with a Mini-Grant for Teachers from the Community Foundation of West Texas. For the competition, students built a robot with attachable pieces to accomplish a task such as scoop or pick up. Students then wrote a code to tell the robot how to move.
The teacher said, “Each student, through trial and error, found their niche in the teams' process.” Due to COVID-19, the competition took place digitally over Zoom. Though some students became frustrated with the process, the team successfully created a working robot and received all the points they attempted with no deductions.
