#SPneighbors Grant Story: Grace Campus

Through a grant from the South Plains COVID-19 Response fund, Grace Campus was able to continue its mission of providing temporary housing to Lubbock’s homeless population during the height of the pandemic. The organization wrote, “So far this year, 79 people have moved from Grace Campus into independent living, and the generous grant we received from The South Plains COVID-19 Response Fund has been an integral part of that success.”

Grace Campus used the funding to purchase much-needed supplies and resources to assist with the impact of COVID-19 and the people they serve. Items including office protective guards, items to increase sanitation, and a generator were bought with grant funding. The organization reported, “These funds gave us the ability to purchase items that not only protected everyone staying at Grace Campus during this time but also the individuals that continue to come through our gates seeking shelter. In fact, until just a few days ago, we had no individuals that had tested positive for Covid-19. There is simply no way that would have happened without the finances to purchase many of the items that have kept people safe, provided for their basic needs, and allowed us to quarantine new clients arriving at Grace Campus.”

The organization shared the story of one of its clients in the final report:

“Danny is a 35-year-old father of two. This past month we had the blessing of watching Danny drive out the gates of Grace Campus headed to his own apartment. Finances from the COVID-19 Response Fund provided Danny with the resources he needed and a safe place to stay as he worked tirelessly to get back on his feet. We have checked up on Danny continuously since he left Grace Campus, and he is doing great! Thanks to the generosity of our community, Grace Campus has not only assisted numerous individuals like Danny with necessary supplies and food during their stay at Grace Campus but also in the time that follows as they begin a new chapter of their lives.”

Grace Campus closed their report with: “Thanks to you, we had the resources we needed to continue fulfilling our mission in the community. We were able to inspire hope, instill value, and equip the homeless in our community.” To support local nonprofits like Grace Campus by donating to the Community Foundation of West Texas with the following link: https://www.cfwtx.org/give-now.
